V. Gerard (Jerry) Comizio

With over four decades of expertise in financial services law, V. Gerard (Jerry) Comizio is a nationally recognized authority in digital assets, banking regulation, and financial compliance. As Managing Director of Digital Assets Advisors at Falcon Capital Advisors, he leads the firm’s initiatives in cryptocurrency and digital finance, providing strategic guidance to clients navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

Mr. Comizio has served as Associate Director and Professor in the Business Law Program at American University’s Washington College of Law, where he pioneered one of the first digital asset law courses in the country. He is the founder and director of AUWCL’s Digital Asset Law Project, designed to foster a deeper understanding of the legal, compliance, and policy challenges of digital finance. His scholarship includes the seminal works Virtual Currency Law: The Emerging Legal and Regulatory Framework (2022) and International Banking Law (2016).

In private practice, Mr. Comizio represented a wide range of financial institutions, fintech firms, virtual currency exchanges, and investment firms. He previously led the banking and financial services practices at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP and Paul Hastings LLP, advising clients on complex financial regulatory matters.

His public service includes leadership roles at the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Thrift Supervision and the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he played a key role in shaping financial regulatory policy. He has also been recognized as one of the 25 Most Influential People in Financial Services Regulation by American Banker.

Mr. Comizio is a frequent speaker and media commentator on financial regulation, digital assets, and fintech policy. His insights have been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Bloomberg, American Banker, and Financial Times, and he has appeared on NPR, Fox News, and CBS Radio. Mr. Comizio has written several books and publications on financial services regulation, including International Banking Law (West Academic, 2016) and Virtual Currency Law: The Emerging Legal and Regulatory Framework (Wolters Kluwer/Aspen Publishing, 2022).
